That sounds like an error in the manual. My understanding is that there is no gating 
of the VCA. Unfortunately, the signal will always run through ENV 3, there is no open 
gate. You can always set ENV 3 to be some impossibly long envelope with the 
analog mode on. (Or whatever mode where repeated keypresses will start the attack 
at whatever level you are currently at). This will help.

I am not the best to comment on this. My *impression* was that many people were 
having issues specifically with LFO sync, getting external sequencers to recognize 
parameters, and sometimes getting the sequencer sync right. 

If anyone uses LFO sync and other things regularly, they can correct my impression. 
:) I don't use these features -- basic MIDI works and works well. So honestly I can't 
comment.
