Anyone create a nice e-piano on their andromeda and care to share it or
discuss it?
I'm thinking a great way to develop our sound design skills and develop more
community on this list would be to collectively design some patches. I got
this idea reading the 'programming analog synths' article on the access
virus site. The sound designer author mentioned working on patches with a
colleague and they would send the patch back and forth, tweaking, learning,
and making the patch better in the process.
Also, I've been re-reading my one and only synth book, 'synthesizer
technique', and It has made me realize just how much knowledge is out there
when it comes to the science of designing certain sounds, such as what
waveforms to choose, which harmonics to emphasize, etc.
Wouldn't it be killer if we had a living, breathing, preset library on the
code404 site? It would require a bit of self-regulation b/c if a few people
trying to post different versions of say 'Funk Piano #2' to the site it
would get hairy. We would need to communicate over the list if we wanted to
post a 'update' to the patch. I don't really want to get into this too much
now but one idea would be to post to the list and see who the last person
who edited the patch was, then email that individual personally to
understand the desired sound of the patch. If those authors agree that it
makes the patch better, then the update would go forward. Just an idea, if
you've got some ideas, please speak up.
The A6 offers so many possibilites. I think if we banded together a litle
bit we could create some truly amazing patches and learn a lot in a shorter
span of time than working individually. This reminds of a recent post I saw
on the DUC (I'm a PTLE user) in which everyone was sharing tips on mixing
when someone asked "Why are you people all giving away your secrets", and
someone replied that when you share your ideas, you often learn in the
process, and you encourage others to share their ideas, and it comes back
around. It also pushes you forward, essentially forcing you to create new
'secrets'.
Thoughts?
