[A6] Trouble setting MIDI channels for A6

i encountered this over the weekend.  i would just go in and turn on the kbd for the mix part i was editing while turning all the others off.  kind of a pain in the ass, and i also saw that bit about omno off/poly in the manual, but couldn't find the settings were in the A6...
 
i then read in the "tips and tricks" that in order to use the A6 as a master kbd (in mix mode), you have to turn the mix part you are editing on and the others off...
