Well, of course, Numan could not be part of it. But since the original
Polymoog sound is called VOX HUMANA, I thought anyone who cared would recognize
Humana Numana.
I find this patch fascinating, though not tricky: It IS a great sound in an
arrangement, not so impressive on its own, something that is hard to know when
trying a synth at a store. I call them "bread and butter" sounds - ones you
can use a lot, but may not be so impressive as "a sound". Hammond organ or
Solina string synth are actually quite plain and limited, but so many uses can
be found for it. Good string pads and bass sounds are often fairly
dull-sounding, but work in an arrangement.
The Oberheim OB-Mx I have does Vox Humana it well - it's a bit dirtier -
more like the Moog original, but yet not as rich as the A6 version. The key is
the filter tone (you need a Moog filter shape, which the A6 and OB-Mx have -
most synths don't have it), the modulation of the waveforms and pitch, plus
having two different waveforms on each oscillator. I suppose just having the
Polymoog in front is the key to getting it right - you had to know how THEY
once got that sound...

Buying an A6: Of course, the A6 does many more sounds than ALL old analog
synths, and it is expensive. But it does so much I think the price is quite
fair. (Polymoogs used to be $5,000 in 1970's money!) I would recommend buying
one you could try out first, but if you can save quite a bit, maybe shipping is
fine.
