Chris,

Here is a link to the a6 manual. I hope it does not come to it for me, but how was the service, shipping, and the entire experience? http://sharepoint.fccj.edu/jkissing/Jeff%20Kissinger%20Online%20Instructor/Shared%20Documents/alesis_andromeda_manual.pdf

Thx,
Jeff

I just got my Andromeda back from AudioDesign & Service (http://www.audiodesign-service.com/). This is the official Alesis repair facility for the US.

I sent it in because the aftertouch would not pass front panel debug mode. Their notes indicate "replaced aftertouch", but I am still having the same exact problem.

In Front Panel Debug mode, pressing a key for aftertouch the reading goes from about 4089 to about 1900.

I don't receive a PASS for aftertouch in front panel debug mode.

1) Can anyone who has opened the Andromeda tell me if this could be a problem with the keys on the keyboard? They seem rather "stiff" to me.

2) How exactly is the aftertouch triggered?

3) Where can I find schematics for the Andromeda?

4) Should I bother opening up the Andromeda to see if I can do anything about this myself?

Please CC me on any replies, as I'm not currently subscribed to the list.

Thanks,
Chris Lilly

i have passed the aftertouch diagnostic. the only thing is that i had to press
pretty hard on the keys. the aftertouch has to go through the complete range.
when i finally passed it, it continued through the bootup process.

Hi, I have noticed but have been bothered with the left and right modulation
source until yesterday. It doesn't work. I can use the ribbon in full
length, but nothing happens when I address the left or the right side of it
to any source. Is this one off the know bugs or is it my shortcoming of
knowledge?

/Greetings Glenn

Yes, but the A6 gets more use. I love the ION for making cool sounds, it's
amazing and EASY as pie to program.

A6 and Micron here.

Honestly the A6 blows the Micron away though. :P

So, are there unique sound capabilities of the Ion versus the A6?

I plan to get an A6 eventually.... and if I decide not to keep the Nord Modular G2x I will
need a smaller controller keyboard to use with my PC. Thinking the Ion might offer some
cool sounds along with controller keyboard functionality.

"if I decide not to keep the Nord Modular G2x "

I'm quite curious why you would consider changing such a beast of a synth
for a modest Ion?

As a Nord micro owner I am having to keep my credit card under lock and key
to stop me buying a G2

My own conclusion, after trying every synth I can get my hands on, analogue
and digital, hardware and software, over the past two years, is that unless
its analogue then it should be a Nord. For me the Nord G2 does everything
the A6 doesn't, and vica versa.

...don't take me too seriously as I am making special exceptions for the
korg legacy wavestation and Absynth :)

I've tried the Ion a couple of times at my music shop. What
it tries to do is emulating the Andro. It does a nice job
for a VA, unless you have the real thing. ;)

The Ion has 3 oscs though, and a ton of filter models. The
interface *looks* fast, but I'm not sure if it really is.
The sound though, is still very VA. Compared with the real
thing (Andro) it's cold and lifeless.

Now that's not a problem at all, unless you also have the
Andro! Why use it then? Okay, you could use it for the more
modern sounds that typically require a VA. Problem then is
that all of the preset banks have 'analog' style sounds, so
it's a lot of work to make your own new soundset then.

Maybe the Micron is a nice alternative, because it has more
features (more fx, more sequencers), and has a nice price.
The Micron has this toy-on-the-couch quality, more fun.

"The Micron has this toy-on-the-couch quality"

:))

indeed, that and the price, are exactly what makes it a thing of desire!
