[A6] Unison-X on, shouldn't be?

OK.
I just drove myself batty for 10 minutes trying to figure out why my
completely vanilla square wave, single osc, zero modulation program
insisted on stacking two voices at once. Of course this gave me a
lovely but totally undesired PWM interference between the two.
In keyboard mode page, the voice indicator clearly shows two voices per
note being played (rotate) even though Unison-X is totally off, zero,
nada.
Switching to mono from poly drops to a single voice as it should.
Switching back to poly, and I get two voices per note. And then,
presto somehow it is fixed, now there's only one voice playing per
note, and I have no idea how. WTF?
I've seen the info on the Unison-X button bug, this doesn't seem to be
it. Anyone else? Once again, sorry if it's been covered. The list
archive is large.
