Well you have the pre filter and post filter mixers, and the VCA level
parameter itself
which all can overdrive rather easily :)
The VCA does sound much clearer at level 80 and under, 70 is best. But then
the output levels
are much lower. Also the Auxiliary outs sound cleaner than the main outs
I suspect it maybe due to the shrinkage of the circuits down the the chip
level
size. I'm pretty sure the designs sounded good on the the full scale size
when they
prototyped them, but strange things happen to signals when they get shrunk
down
to the level of the ASIC chips, which is far smaller in scale than regular
CEM etc type chips.
There is also probbaly a lot more crosstalk happening due to the closeness
of the circuit parts
