[A6] Adjusting Pitch Bend Wheel

Here you go. The first one is from Mike Peake. It was related to ribbon
controller removal. The second one is from Geoff concerning encap
replacement. Both describe removing the top of the A6. My apologies for
not reformatting the text. I just copied and pasted.

Sioux

how to remove top of A6

Basically, the screws right along the seam in the
rear all come off (only the ones right
along the seam), the screws along the endcaps
on the bottom of the machine, as well as the
four screws under the mod wheels, and the row
of screws just behind the keyboard screws that
secure the ribbon along its length. You grasp
the endcaps and "open" them out a hair, then
lift the front panel directly off of the base,
moving around a little so that it clears (there
are a couple of things it may catch on). Once
clear, you can flip it and lay it up away from
the base of the unit. You'll be able to see the
tiny screw that goes up into the plastic cap
from underneath the front panel. Don't screw
it in all the way as it will put a bump in
the cap. Just keep contact with the cap as
you screw it down to make sure that it's
set. The front panel goes back down over
the base in the same way; "open" out the
endcaps at their bottoms and work the FP
over onto the base. Align things and screw
on the rear panel seam screws as well as
those along the endcaps on the bottom. Now
the screws under the wheels. You may have to
get a screwdriver through the holes to line
them up. Now the same thing for the ribbon,
which is the worst part of it. You have to
use a screwdriver to move it into line in
order to drive in each screw. Power up and
make sure that it works :-)

You may wish to take a look at the cables
and make sure that they are all seated
correctly before reassembling the unit.

1. Open the unit and remove panel PCB

Remove the top panel so you can see which knobs need to come off...
Which involves all of the screws along the rear at the division of the
top and bottom panel, as well as the four screws direcly under the
pitch and mod wheels and the screws along the left and right edges, and
the screws directly under the length of the ribbon controller.
The ribbon controller screws are a bitch to replace; you have to have
an awl or small screwdriver inserted into one or more of the holes to
guide the ribbon controller metal back to alignment before inserting
and tightening those screws.

Note that once you have the top unscrewed, set the unit back down on
it's base and slowly lift the top up by the endcaps, working it around
anything that catches. ONLY lift it straight up, as if the top of the
unit were levitating. If you tilt it, you will break the endcaps. Once
you've lifted it a few inches, having worked around the bits that
"catch", you can then tilt it, opening the unit like a clam. Note that
there are ribbons connecting the base to the top so keep them close
together.

If the top won't come up easily, you can flex the endcaps out at the
very bottom a bit to help.

2. Remove all screws which mount this PCB to the front panel
3. Remove the PCB from the front panel to gain access to the endcap
mounting screws
4. Unscrew and replace the endcap

There is a metal bracket which mounts on the endcap plastic that has to
be swapped onto the new part, and then you screw it to the FP metal.

5. Replace front panel PCB making sure all buttons are correctly
centered in the FP holes and none are held down inadvertantly.

Especially before tightening any screws down all the way!!!! Mount the
PCB and start a few screws at the corners in order to hold it there,
and press it onto the front panel, and make sure that the buttons are
all clear. Then tighten those screws some more, and check all of the
buttons again. Press them if need be to insure that they are "free". As
you do this, add more screws. Don't do them all though; when you get
about halfway through, do the following:

6. power up unit and run button self-test to check operation of all
buttons

I believe that it is soft button 2 to run the self-test. Note that
you'll need the sustain pedal for each jack test, and a midi cord run
from in to out for the MIDI test. Turn each pot through their entire
throw, press each button, run up and down the ribbon and wheels, etc.

7. reassemble unit

Then power it up and if you want to be certain that all is well, run the
front panel test again.
