The Sysex pdf located on the Alesis site documents the program data format (albeit only partially, sadly):

I would recommend having a look at it first, before trying to reverse-engineer patch files yourself: for many parameters, byte-packing is used to store them, meaning that one byte may contain 3 or even more different parameter values. Been down that route myself. (And don't even have a t-shirt to show for it:)

Resource considerations, I suppose.
