you might want to make sure "midi thru" is activated in the preferences 
section, this sends the signal back to your a6 when you record.

i know how you feel . . . the "getting started" tutorial that comes with 
cubase is worth doing.  pay attention to every single detail, like 
turning off local control on the A6 and making sure it sends out midi -- 
i think by default the a6 does not send midi for either the keys or the 
panel -- again, there are two different settings for this, one is on the 
keyboard page of the global a6 settings, the other is buried somewhere else.
