Hi all.
I'm not sure if I have this discussion right but I'll add my two cents... From
what I have gathered, it's pretty much all about the fx section: In program
mode, you have one FX unit per Patch, but in mix mode you only one fx per whole
mix, so if you have five programs, only one of those can have an effect, (Or
can you have the same affect applied to more then one program?) Either way, not
every program can have its own effect... So any program that is "effect heavy"
will sound different in mix mode, unless it is the ONE program in the mix that
has fx.
My theory is though, that especially with a synth like the A6, I think it is
desirable to create your sounds with as little, if any, effect as possible. I
agree that the effect section on the A6 is pretty rubbishy, BUT it was either
that or pay $1000 more OR compromise the rest of the unit for the sake of
effect, which, IMHO, would have defeated the whole purpose of making this
analogue beast all together. So, I guess it's a bit of a drawback for people
who want to play mix mode live but I only play in program mode anyway, all my
other tracks are laid down beforehand, I'm a karaoke keyboardist:-) If I'm
recording a track from A6 and I want it to have effect I usually lay it down
dry without A6's fx and then send it through my M.One effect unit, that way I
can re-take with a different effect or tweak it without otherwise altering the
track.

I asked this a while ago but didn't really get any reply: has anyone used
alesis' air fx with the A6? It seems a bit trashy but it looks like it would be
great fun to play the A6 through live...

-Andee.
