Hi,
You wrote....
Man are you talking my language! I am finding the A6 great not only for
sound effects and
space noises, but also for heavy pads and Heldon style sequencing effects.
I had just purchased the A6
and used it quite a bit on our last record A Night For Baku. You can find
some sound samples
here: http://www.djamkaret.com/sounds.php. I really am not bright enough
to program sounds on the A6
from scratch, so I use many of the presets as starting points for my own
tweaking. For example, this morning
I am working with Preset 2 - 048/Sustanor and using the modwheel and
pressure sensitivity and really extending those arrpegios
for a great spacey feel. This baby is deep and I love it!
BTW, the essential Ozric Tentacles synth is the Novation Supernova 2--I
refer to it as "Ozrics In a Box"!
YESSSSSSSS! How are you Chuck? I saw you guys play at Progfest Day Zero at
the BoatHouse in San Francisco back in 1999. I really enjoyed your set. I
purchased the "Live at Orion" CD that night (I think) becuase I dug the DK
sound and it was the latest release. Of course the A6 wasn't there but you
guys had a great sound. I thought I saw Henry at a booth at the actual
Progfest show the day after too.
Anyhow...glad to see you're getting some great sounds out of the A6 and
actually using it on some recordings. I'll take a listen to the clips. Heck,
I might even purchase the CD. I just got my A6 on Friday so I'm in for a
long read of the reference manual.
I know that Ed is endorsed by Novation now and their music since "Waterfall
Cities" is drenched with the Supernova 2 sound. Seaweed (Ozric's Synth
player) uses a Synthi AKS live which I think he uses to get those great
raygun and synth bubble sounds that can be heard on their "Sploosh" song.
Here's a snip of Sploosh they did back in 1998 at The Fillmore in San
Francisco which displays the extensive use of the Synthi and other synths:
http://www.baymoon.com/~gmanmusic/sploosh1998.MP3 It's a 4.3 MB mp3 file
(128k). I Saw them 3 times live including the Fillmore show and Seaweed
tweaks the heck out of that thing. That's the kind of special effects I'd
like to try to recreate on the A6...along with tons my own creations of
course. I found Preset 2 - 127 - "Zweeper" is along the lines of those Ozric
type sound effects. I don't expect the A6 to behave exactly like the EMS
Synthi but it would be great to get some of those trippy sounds and more.
I'm looking forward to experimenting in depth in the coming weeks.
I noticed the reference to Porcupine Tree on the Djam Karet website.
Speaking of them...I saw them at Progfest 99, and at Slims and the Fillmore
last year. Great band...although they've changed their sound quite a bit
since signing on with their new major label. Richard Barbieri uses the
Prophet 5 I believe. It broke down right before they went on at Progfest 99
which created quite a delay and he ended up going on without it.
