[A6] Sequencer newbie, notes off?

Hope this is not too OT.
I've been driving my A6 with a recently acquired Roland MC-500
sequencer. I notice that if I daisy chain MIDI traffic through the A6
destined for another piece of gear on another channel, the A6 is
unplayable even though none of the traffic is (supposed to be) destined
for the A6 channel.
What happens is that notes held on the A6 keyboard seem to be cutting
out during note off events destined for the other channel. Say, while
I'm trying to hold a pad on the A6 and my Juno-106 is bopping away some
bass line.
I've checked the soft-through (echo) function on the MC-500 to make
sure I'm not making a loop. I have tried using both LOCMID and MIDI,
and turning the MC-500 echo on and off. The only way around it is to
have the A6 on a dedicated MC-500 port, and route the rest of the
traffic out of the other one. I hope this explains the situation
adequately. Any ideas?
In related news, if the MC-500 *is* playing the A6 (intentionally), I
don't seem to be able to play the keyboard at the same time, for the
same reason. This is in PROGRAM. Do I have to make a MIX with two
identical programs, but two separate channels to do this?
Thanks for any help,
Mike
