I've tried the Ion a couple of times at my music shop. What
it tries to do is emulating the Andro. It does a nice job
for a VA, unless you have the real thing. ;)
The Ion has 3 oscs though, and a ton of filter models. The
interface *looks* fast, but I'm not sure if it really is.
The sound though, is still very VA. Compared with the real
thing (Andro) it's cold and lifeless.
Now that's not a problem at all, unless you also have the
Andro! Why use it then? Okay, you could use it for the more
modern sounds that typically require a VA. Problem then is
that all of the preset banks have 'analog' style sounds, so
it's a lot of work to make your own new soundset then.
Maybe the Micron is a nice alternative, because it has more
features (more fx, more sequencers), and has a nice price.
The Micron has this toy-on-the-couch quality, more fun.
