Shawn, could you please tell us the serial of your old(if you still know it)
and your new Andromeda? Maybe this is a whole batch that needs to
be avoided.
Alesis always had serious problems with quality control. It just
deteriorated
to gigantic proportions lately. It's like a "White Elephant" out here -
everyone
knows it's so but pretend its ok - in silent prayer their A6 doesn't go
bezeerk..
so, when a newcomer asks about possibly buying an Andromeda and gets answers
like: it's "very dependable", and that "it's only because those that have
it working
fine aren't talking about it, results in Andromeda having a bud rep" is,
pardon me,
total load of crap. You just can't call an instrument that has such a hi
percentage
of faulty units 'dependable' and 'stable'.
One i bought first in June03, came with the whole mainboard FRIED , all
voices
were distorted and noise floor was up 20dB (i measured compared to a
workling unit).
Now, how in the hell does that get passed the factory gates, i ask you???
are they on drugs or something? I had to replace it. and since i'm in
europe, they
refused to give me another unit, i had to wait for two months till they
replaced the
mainboard on the original unit.
imo, only fair thing to say would be, as someone suggested to you earlier,
that it IS a
fantastic instrument, and it IS defintely worth the risk to some people (me
included),
so you should find a used one (or a new one in the store that you can try
out), that
actually WORKS and buy it immediately.
about the differences in sound: i had two A6 side by side - mine has a bit
slower
attack and tad bit darker sound. three people confirmed this when listening.
well, i
got used to it by now, but just to give you heads up - there are variations,
no
matter what they tell you.
rant finished..
