No, they're not prototypes. We just have some of the very first completed
products to leave. I got mine from our local Alesis rep when I worked
selling instruments. This was his demo unit to interest stores in ordering
them for stock. Luckily, I knew Alesis was going bankrupt before he did,
otherwise I doubt I've been able to get this away from him hehe.
Anyhow, there's been no hardware revision of any kind that I'm aware of.
The only thing that ever needed updating was the bootloader software, a
process not unlike the OS updates. Chances are yours has already been
updated by the previous owner since that bootloader update was released in
early summer of 2001.

Mine's fine. Never a problem. I'm pretty sure all A6's have the same pots.
Numark is unwilling to sink any money into refining the A6 hardware or
software or deriving any new products from that technology, so I'd not
expect any hardware changes to this synth for it's production life, really.
The pots are fine. The only way they wobble would be if you intentionally
attempt to do so using more force than you should when manipulating a pot.
Honestly, that's one of the complaints leveled at the A6 that I've
understood the least.

I would think not. I think the only reason one would think A6's are
defective often is because you hear about every defective one made on this
list. Everyone here doesn't say "oh mine's wonderful, I've never had any
problems", you know? I find people tend to stay quiet when they're content
and only speak up when something's wrong.
