[A6] Since we're comparing apples and oranges...

A lot of keystrokes have been burned up about the moog/A6 thing.
Probably at some point in the distant past, the same happened for
oberheim. I have something to add to this (semi-)pointless discussion.
I have an M6R and an M1000 in my rack. These units produce instant
magic on touch, the kind of sounds that strike the nerve that says,
'this is special'. Some of the horn and liquidy factory patches come
to mind.
On paper, the A6 should easily be able to replicate this, but for the
most part, I haven't been able to reproduce the magic. I'm beginning
to wonder if (in small part) it has something to do with output drive
capability. I have noticed on most patches that the A6 output
doesn't have the ability to drive a proper line level. Master volume
up at 3/4, voice levels up way high, pre- and post-filter mixes
always pushing. And I know that this isn't the recipe for smooth
sounding patches on the A6.
But I'm not sure it is simply a gain issue. To me this is the sound
of wimpy output drivers. Which, frankly, surprises me a bit since
it's not like it's trying to drive into a low impedance input. Does
everyone just trim it up? Or is <ahem> the Mackie stereo line in a POS?
