[A6] a6 freezes during bootup

  You probably have crapola in the edit buffer.  This happened to me
once years ago.  I can never remember which soft button to press while
powering up, but one of them will clear the edit buffer to solve this
exact problem.  The archives (or even the manual) should have more info.
