[A6] middle E key not working so well

My middle E key doesn't seem to be working ... if i press the key really hard
it will play, but if i hit the key lightly it only plays intermittently. i've
tried a reset, it doesn't help. anybody have any ideas about what it could be
before i contact alesis technical support? i think i may need a new keyboard.
it looks like it is pretty easy to replace.
