Tuning is not really a problem. If you're buying one from a store (most 
people have) then just take it out in the shop - plug it in and make sure it works 
This is ALWAYS a good idea for gear anyway, easy to solve any problems 
immediately...

On most days, I turn it on, tune it once and it's good for quite a while. 
Certainly more stable than a guitar would be....
