While we're on the subject: I once broke the spring that mkas the wheel snap back to origin. This is bad, as there is NO center spot at that point - it just flops freely all over.

As I recall, there was a metallic strip inside which acts as the spring. It flexes then returns to zero afterward. I got a replacement spring from Alesis (actually two) and would up putting in TWO springs, and it made th action much more solid and firm. I love it, but it's a bit of trouble unless you feel you really need it.
