My apologies. No it's not a secret. I'm afraid I don't have anything that
exciting going on. ;) This question (or very similar) was asked several
months ago and I didn't remember anyone else answering so I wasn't expecting
anyone else to answer this post. Obviously I was wrong. Anyway, it doesn't
matter. I was in a hurry and Dave sounded urgent so I wanted to answer him
right away. Since I was in a hurry I didn't have time to write out my
thoughts in a well constructed manner so I wrote them quickly just to Dave.
(I've been trying to be more conscious of writing clear mails, in the proper
responding order and without extraneous content.) As it turns out, several
others have given good answers so it all worked out great. I'll gather these
up and put them in the T&T doc.
>And then why are you telling us;-)
To let others know I was responding to his post.
Below is my mail to Dave.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Dave,
There was a person on this list who moved to London and asked all those
questions. I don't remember his name and don't know if he is still active on
the list though. Maybe he'll respond.
Other than that, I can tell you that you need to call the airlines and give
them the exact dimensions of the A6 in the case and the weight and they will
tell you if they will be able to check it or not. If not you'll have to ship
it separately.
I would put as much bubble packing stuff around it as possible. It will make
it if you protect it. I sent a Triton to Spain last year and my A6 came to
the east coast of the US from the west coast. Whatever country you're going
to you need to write the word "Fragile" in large letters in their language.
If it is checked I don't know about insurance. If you ship it there will be.
If you ship it, I would ship it over night so it spends as little time in a
warehouse as possible and as I said, pack it well!
If you ship it you will need to take it to a Fed Ex station and get it
weighed and they will tell you what to do from there. Also, if you ship it
go with Fed Ex and not UPS. I haven't shipped anything in a case before,
just in the original box so I don't know how protective it is.
I'm afraid that's all I know. You need to call the airlines but only after
you get the exact weight and dimensions. If you ship it, you can also call
Fed Ex 800 # and they will give you an estimate based on specs.
HTH,
Sioux
