Why are you against Yahoo groups? I prefer an independant setup myself but
if that isn't possible, Yahoo groups seems like a good alternative. It
gives both email, like the current setup, and a web interface so people
can choose the way they view the messages. It also gives a file archive, a
database system and archiving.

I am against a web only forum. I much prefer email. And I wouldn't like
the group to be split into two communities.
