I don't think I can fix this :) but I can help you identify the problem, so
Alesis can fix it.

At any rate... It does sound like that a parameter in the filter section is
not carrying over in the mix. The VCO and VCA sections sound the same. Now,
what it is I cannot say, but I'd strongly suggest checking the filter offset
and cutoff parameters first. Then check envelope levels (especially check
the mod routes). If this doesn't work, don't forget to see if anything funky
is being done in Envelope 2, like say if the overall level of that is not
being set properly on a MIDI patch switch.

Two things could be happening that I can think of: A) When switching a MIDI
patch in mix mode, the parameter is "set" in the display but does not get
applied to the actual sound generation chips. B) When switching a MIDI patch
in mix mode, the parameter just simply isn't set properly.

You can write down the values in the filter settings in program mode
(including mod routes), and compare this to a "switched" patch in mix mode.
If you see a parameter that did not carry over, you've found the bug.

To check scenerio A, manually edit the patch in mix mode. Go into a section
(say filter); and "wiggle" the parameter, by setting it first to, say, the
uppermost extreme value and then move back to the original value displayed.
If the sound moves back to normal, you've found the bug.

It sometimes helps to identify common patches with this bug and see if there
is anything you can narrow down the sound to, so you don't have to work so
hard at exploring all these patches.

You now have something you can report to Alesis, who either can tell you
whether its possibly a synth problem :( or hopefully can correct it in some
future version of the OS (if they can duplicate it across the board). In the
mean time, you can work around that bug in your sequencer, or by manually
setting up patches if that's possible (which sucks, but that's a computer
fact of life).
