The only difference again is that physical models are hard coded
mathematical models meant to reproduce the nuances of a physical instrument.
The Neuron models are mathematical models that are arrived at, not by hard
coding models of physical traits, but by neural modeling. You are right
that it has no sense of what is being modeled, but in the current synth
world, the physical modeling synths are 'most like' the Neuron in terms of
approach that I can explain (thus why the Neuron is so 'innovative'). Once
the model maker software makes its model and its imported into the Neuron,
AT THAT POINT, it has no more idea of what the physical thing its modeling
is than the Z1 (i.e. once 'completed' the Z1 physical models are nothing
more than math - as are the neuron's) That's all I was meaning when I made
the comparison. Hope that clears it up.

That's basically my understanding of exactly what modelmaker does. How else
would it build models from multiple samples and 'figure out' the model that
created them?

Actually, one of the preset models on the Neuron IS a PWM model ;-)
