Well, your standpoint makes sense, I think maybe you misunderstood
what I said/asked. I wasn't criticizing the method of synthesis it uses,
I'm all for new and unusual techniques. I wasn't criticizing the type of
sounds it makes, some of them seem neat enough to me.
What I was saying was, for the type of sounds it makes, don't you
think a decent sampler or late eighties digital synths
(D50/JD800/Wavestation) can make the same sounds for about $500? I'm all
for new and unusual synthesis techniques as long as the end result, the
sounds, are also new and unusual. To me it sounds like a late 80's
sample+digital synthesis engine, not that there is anything wrong with that
type of sound. But, to pay $5,000 to get the sounds a 15 year old $200-$800
unit can make seems like little more than bleeding-edge bragging rights,
and that's not even mentioning how easily/cheaply computer plug-ins can
make the same sound.
So do you see what I mean now? Ignore the synthesis method, and tell
me if you think the sounds it makes can be made with the synth family I
mentioned for much less money, or do I imagine this?
