I had the same problem. Voice recognition chip went bad. I had it replaced
on the main board and all was well. Mine did not pass midi either. It
would go on and off and retuning it seemed to always solve the prob. Then
one day nothing from the keys at all...midi worked fine......First check to
see if the connectors from the keyboard are hot glued down....it could be a
minor as that. But if you have not moved it or had it shipped I doubt that
is the prob. Have fun cracking it open...it is a bit of a bitch but not too
bad actually. The repair cost me $275 I think. I can give you the name of
a good tech that Peake sent me to. It is an easy fix. I am surprised at
the last post about having the same problem and it not being
repairable....that seems rather odd. Did Alesis say this? The main board
only costs about $800 to replace.

Hi List,

I have a big problem with my A6, and wondered if any of you knew the
solution...

The diagnostics do not pass the midi test... ( boot soft key 2 )

keyboard is dead..... but sometimes comes alive..... it is random.

Have the latest OS, and have done the soft 3, 4 reset at boot as well....

Thank you in advance!

Ant.

Perhaps the keyboard ribbon cable (I think there's one--been about a
year since I've been inside my A6) is loose.

I had this and unfortuneately my A6 had to be exchanged, cause it couldn´t
be repared. It started as described by U, except the diagnostic was O.K.

It did. I just couldn´t use the keyboard anymore. In the beginning the
problem just appeared somtimes and then one day the keyboard wasn´t working
at all.

I´m also a little afraid of my A6 running out of guarantee and the problem
comming back, cause it seems to be a kind of construction mistake. (you´re
the 3rd person having this problem)

Thanks Dave, but I did open it and found everything OK, the keyboard ribbon
conectors actually have some
clips, and they looked nice and tight. ( 4 connections for the keyboard ) +
aftertouch.

the randomness is what puzzles me...

Ant.
