Perhaps this is because QC on music applications is really horrid. It seems
they are still living in the bubble years where putting out New And Improved
Features!! is more important than reliability. (Yes, it is possible to write
stable WinNT-based music apps, I have seen some.) I tend to have few
problems with Windows 2000 and up PCs until I start loading musicware on it.
It's one of the reasons why being in a band is more important to me these
days than self-recording. I can chat with bandmates and drink beer rather
than stare at the Blue Screen O' Death.
Personally I use MIDIOX for transferring patches, it does seem to work good
enough.
