Yeah. I think that the A6 has a certain "wonk" that does not sound *quite*
as good as *some* more discrete analogs. OTOH, it isn't bad at all - and its
good multi capabilities mean something. And, the one thing the A6 does
extremely well at is pads. I would put the string, choir, and "space" type
pads you can get out of this synth up against near anything - digital
included, since the A6 is so much more organic sounding at this sort of
thing.
So, this is the Matrix 12 of the 2000 era - a Matrix 12 with bigger balls
and less "air", but a Matrix 12 all the same. *shrug*

I'm
I'm in two bands, Fromage (80s cover band) and Boney Fiend (horror punk). My
setup is the same for both: Andromeda for the analog sounds, Roland JV1010
for generic sample stuff, and a recently acquired Roland VK-8 for sorta-B3
sounds without the massive B3 weight.
At home I also have a Roland D-50 and Waldorf Pulse. Haven't done much home
recording recently though.
Ideally, I'd add a sampler to my home studio. I really can't think of
anything else that's a good "value add". Sure, if I was making some $$$ at
music, plucking three grand on some meatier poly or mono would not be a bad
idea. As of now, it is better to save that money and record at some place
with good tube preamps and EQ. :)
