[A6] nrpn controllers (drawing in sequencer)

is there any kind of , hrm, easy/convenient/fast way to draw clean
envelopes for the nrpn control data that our a6 loves so
much?  particularly in cubase 5 ... looking at either the midi part editor
or the control editor, it seems very unhandy to have data split into four
separate areas  (two for controllers, two for data entry)

example, i'd like to PUT a volume entry for mix channel 9 at the beginning
of a track, not have to record it.. then PUT a smooth volume decrease at
the end of the passage rather than have to record it..

ok so recording it isn't such a big deal, but sometimes it is hard to make
some things (like filters) sound seamless.. for me.. maybe i'm just slow
