First, I noticed that the Reply To: address on the list is no longer
a6 at code404.com. Just wanted to point that out. I prefer the old way.
I just finished a little tune which used a lot of A6. When I was mixing,
I noticed that it sounded muffled and distant with all of the
instruments playing (strings, brass lead, bass, kick, snare). It sounded
like the tracks were coming from behind the monitors in mono, I couldn't
tell as much in headphones. I relegated the strings to the aux output,
and it made a huge difference in the sound. I guess they're not using
audiophile op amps on the output.
If I had the console inputs, I would have used the direct outs. I know
this has come up before, but I wanted to reiterate it. At the very least
divide your tracks between the main and aux outputs if a lot is going on.
Oh, if anyone cares, the tune is here:

Also used a few loops, S760 Conga, Wavestation voices and QS8 Rhodes.
You can tell I've been listening to nothing but the new Jan Hammer
"Miami Vice Collection" CD Set for the last month. Analog & Vintage
Synth fans should run and pick that up, it's such a sweet CD.
